Melanie and David Leppla

Our lanterns are inspired by the Japanese aesthetic, in which reverence is

given to the studied beauty of simplicity and a value worthy of this attention is placed on even everyday objects."

David and Melanie Leppla create sculptural lighting that imbues any room with an intimate glow while creating a serene and meditative focal point. The design details of their "Kyoto Lantern" series are inspired by such varied elements as the binding techniques used in bamboo fencing, the fibers of paper lanterns or woven mats, lacquered boxes used for containing food or precious items, textile designs, and nature.

The artists create each lamp body by layering glass of different opacities in monochromatic patterns that allow a subtle transmission of light. Each lantern and all its details are individually handcrafted of freeblown glass, without the use of molds.
